abertis airports
is ranked as one of the world’s leading airport operators, with a strong
presence in Europe and America. It is present in 16 airports in six
countries, in addition to the 15 airports in which a stake is held by
Desarrollo de Concesiones Aeroporturarias (DCA), whose acquisition was
announced by abertis in September 2007. The company manages British airport operator TBI through a company owned by abertis ((90%) and Aena Internacional (10%). TBI’s network currently covers a total of eight international airports. Three of these are located in the United Kingdom (London Luton, Cardiff International and Belfast International), one in Sweden (Stockholm Skavsta), three in Bolivia (La Paz, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba) and one in the United States (Orlando Sanford). It also has total or partial management contracts, from governments or local authorities, in five further airports in the US: Atlanta, Burbank, Middle Regional Georgia, Herbert Smart Downtown and Raleigh-Durham. TBI’s main asset is London Luton Airport, one of the main airports serving London, located in the world’s largest air-transport hub. Every year some 10 million passengers pass through London Luton, the operations centre of companies such as easyJet (one of Europe’s leading low-cost airlines) and Silverjet, a long-haul point-to-point operator serving business travellers. Similarly, through an agreement with ACS, in 2007 abertis acquired Desarrollo de Concesiones Aeroportuarias (DCA), a holding company with stakes in 15 Mexican airports, Jamaica, Chile and Colombia. The transaction, which took place in September 2007, –and subject to the corresponding approval by the Authorities, Partners and related Financial Institutions- involves the acquisition of 100% of DCA’s share capital for a total of more than 270 million euros. DCA is one of the three shareholders (with a 33.33% stake) in Aeropuertos Mexicanos del Pacífico (AMP), together with Aena Internacional and the Mexican company CMA. AMP is, in turn, the main shareholder and strategic partner in Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), with a stake of 17% (the remaining 83% is listed on the Mexico and New York stock exchanges). In Colombia, abertis airports manages, through operator Codad, the two runways of Eldorado-Bogota Airport. abertis airports also provides airport-related consulting services and participates in projects in Miami International airport in the US and Castellón Airport in Spain.
